If you’ve tried our hugely popular Diet Coke/Pepsi Max Chicken, you’ll already know we love getting creative with low-calorie fizzy pop! With these zingy, juicy skewers, there’s a surprising key ingredient behind our mouthwatering marinade: Sprite Zero (or 7up Free!).
Simply combine the ingredients for the sticky-sweet marinade, then leave your chicken pieces to drink it up overnight in the fridge. If you use bamboo skewers, just be sure to soak them in water first to prevent them from burning or sticking to the grill.
We like to make this one on the BBQ grill in summer, but if you’d prefer, you can also pop them in the oven. Our top tip? Serve with your favourite barbecue side dishes and a good dollop of our Banana Ketchup recipe. It might sound like a strange combination but trust us, it’s a flavour sensation!

As a guide, an average man needs around 2,500kcal (10,500kJ) a day to maintain a healthy body weight. For an average woman, that figure is around 2,000kcal (8,400kJ) a day. Step 1
If using bamboo skewers, pop them in some water to soak.
Step 2
Add all the ingredients to a large bowl and mix well so that the chicken is well coated. Cover the bowl and place in the fridge to marinate for 4-6 hours (or overnight is even better!).
Step 3
Once the chicken is ready, thread it onto the skewers. We find using 8 skewers works well, so you have 2 skewers per person – you can do more small skewers if you prefer.
Step 4
Place onto a hot barbecue for around 25-30 minutes, until the chicken has cooked through.
If you want to cook these in the oven, place onto a foil lined baking tray. Place into an oven preheated to 180°C for 30 minutes, until cooked through.
Step 5
Once cooked, serve with your choice of accompaniment.
