These Cheese Palmiers make for an utterly gorgeous savoury nibble at any time of day, or a lovely little addition to your party table. The best part is they’ll keep nicely in an airtight container for a few days – so no rush!

While traditional versions are made with buttery pastry and high-fat cheese, we’ve cut the calories by using just three low-calorie ingredients: light ready-rolled pastry, Parmesan cheese and smoky paprika.

We’ve always got a batch on standby at Christmas, but they’re far too yummy to save for once a year. Just imagine their cheesy crunch next to a warming bowl of Roasted Red Pepper and Feta Soup.

To keep things really simple with these cheesy palm-shaped biccies, sprinkle Arla Cherry Tomato and Basil Quark Cooking Cheese with paprika, take them for a dip and thank us later!

Hints & Tips

Below we added some of our communities most common hints and tips. We hope you find them useful.

Savoury cheesy treat!
I used 50% reduced cheese thinly grated, for these and I used smoked paprika and a little garlic inside as well. It was quite warm so I did have to chill the pastry a couple of times. Well worth it, these are devine!
I used a bit of extra cheese and added some garlic granules very tasty and so easy to make.
Refrigerate in between rolling
If your oven has been on and your kitchen is warm I found it hard to roll tightly as the pastry became sticky. I ended up refrigerating between rolling each edge.

Can I assemble these and then freeze?
Then cook from frozen when needed?

Hi Susan, it would probably be best to assemble these Cheese Palmiers and bake them before freezing. Then defrost thoroughly before reheating. If you freeze them before baking you may find they don’t hold their shape well. Thanks for your question and hope this helps.
