From the manufacturer

The Kilner business was first established by John Kilner in England in 1842. Initially producing glass bottles and jars, it was towards the end of the 19th century when the original Kilner Jar was first invented.

The original jar is as much-loved and successful now as it was 175 years ago. Its long-lasting popularity is owed to its iconic design and distinctive pressure seal. Households all over the world trust it to successfully preserve and pickle their fruit and vegetables.

In the 1900s, Kilner presented its innovation as 'the original and the best, all other brands are substitutes'. This claim remains relevant today and is a testament to its impressive heritage.

Preserving is an economic and sustainable way to prevent wastage of your left-over fruit and vegetables. Kilner offers a range of high-quality preserve jars, with a style to suit every kitchen.

Kilner Preserve Jars are constructed from durable, high-quality glass that is easy to clean and doesn’t take on residual odours, tastes or stains from food and drink.

Kilner Preserve Jars feature an easy-to-use metal screw-top lid that contains 2 pieces: a replaceable vacuum seal and a metal screw band that secures the seal. The screw band can be re-used up to 10 times, but the vacuum seal needs to be replaced after each use.

Kilner Preserve Jars

The classic glass preserving jar with traditional Kilner styling - available in a range of sizes - can be found in kitchens up and down the country and remains as popular as ever.

Kilner Vintage Preserve Jars

The Kilner Vintage Preserve Jars are must-haves for any preserving enthusiast. These elegant jars are also suitable for general storage in and around the home, as well as for gifting.

Kilner Decorative Jars

These jars are a fun and fashionable way to store your preserves and sauces. The addition of the Kilner decoration makes them a showpiece that is guaranteed to liven-up any shelf around the home!

Kilner Anniversary Jars

To mark 175 years of producing high-quality glass jars, Kilner has developed a new design that reflects the styling and finish of the original jar.

These are my first screw-band jars (I've previously used the clip-top type).
They are excellent for bottling/canning all kinds of foods, so far I've preserved shepherds pie fillings, soups and stews but the possibilities are endless. Meat & vegetables *must* be pressure canned to prevent botulism and these have proved ideal; because they have no clips and aren't as chunky I can fit 5 of these into my 11L pressure cooker at once, whereas only 4 of the 1L clip-top jars will fit. The reassuring "pop" as the jars seal while cooling is novel, I still haven't tired of that (sad, maybe!)
All in all, great jars for many purposes and a fabulous price (I paid £20 for 3 sleeves/9 jars, free delivery, but they've gone up a bit now). The screw-bands & lids are easy to find online, and although the lid discs can only be used once the screw-bands can be used up to 10 times each.
Each jar comes with a little sticky label inside for you to jot down the contents.
I definitely will be buying more!

I use them all the time because I make a giant homemade coldbrew from ground coffee and then put them in individual jars. They fit on the fridge door which makes the biggest help because it makes the shelf life longer if refrigerated(can’t fit the giant one in my fridge). I work from home too so if I want to make a salad, I just precut and put them into individual ones before they go bad and all I need to do on my lunch break is to empty it on a bowl and put the salad dressing on. Saves up so much time and effort when pre made. Also, when I buy fresh herbs, I fill the bottom of the jar with a little bit of water to keep them more alive in the fridge but don’t put a lid on them. I can just cut from the top and it stays for longer.

I have a glut of cucumbers in my garden at the moment and I decided to preserve some of them. There are plenty of recipes on the internet to enable you to do this but they all recommend 'proper' preserve jars, like these from Kilner.
They actually work just fine - remembering to thoroughly clean them and them heat the up in the oven before filling is important to keep moulds at bay.
These are a good size for longer veggies and I simply quartered my 'mini' cucumbers and pushed them into the jars and filled with boiling spice and vinegar mix. I also made a jar of thickly sliced cucumbers too, so I can compare how they taste.
They look great, and I am leaving them for a while before trying them, so the flavours can really develop.
I have used Kilner preserve jars before for making jam, but this is my first foray into the world of pickles!

Excellent Preserve jars from Kilner and, for a sleeve of three one litre jars, good value for money too. They are sturdy and well made and stand up to preserving extremely well (as expected). The double screw lid with airtight seal is genius! - this system works really, really well. (Basically the seal lid stays on top of the jar, when a vacuum created, which is the sealed airtight part, and the screw section can be removed). The vacuum seal section of the lid can be used numerous times and can be repurchased separately when needed. The jars are well presented and there are full and detailed instructions, on the back of the packaging, to create the perfect airtight vacuum seal for preserving with the double lid. Very pleased with purchase and hope that they will last long! Well packaged with excellent Amazon delivery.

Now that the kilner jar hype has died down I can now find jars are a reasonable price and these jar are fantastic for preserving or storing liquids.
I've been using these jars for storing flavoured water, making iced coffee and other bits and bobs.
The 1 litre jar size is brilliant, it enables me to make so much more of my favourite beverages and they fit perfectly in the fridge.

The pop lid is great because instantly you're aware if your jar is secured properly.

I would recommend these to anyone who wants to make their fridge seems a little more organised, wants to be a little healthier and for those are into jam making because these bad boys hold a lot of jam.
