KitchenCraft Jacket Potato Baking Stand

Grab a King Edward (or four), you’re about to make perfect baked potatoes

What’s your favourite jacket potato filling? Creamy coronation chicken? Smooth tuna mayo? Spicy Mexican chilli? Better start deciding, because with this clever gadget, you’ll be craving jacket potatoes for every meal.

This miracle potato baker has four sturdy aluminium spikes that send heat rippling through your spuds, warming them quickly and evenly. Forget the bad old days, with all those failed baked potatoes with overcooked outsides and rock-hard centres. Now you can enjoy spuds with lovely, fluffy middles and beautifully crispy skins. (For optimum crunch, coat in oil and salt before cooking).

Simply pierce your spuds on the spikes, then place in a hot oven. They’ll be cooked through in record time. Now just grab an oven glove, pick up your potatoes, and slather with a tasty topping. Ta-da! An easy, tasty meal, with no clock-watching necessary.

  • Size (unfolded): 12 x 14.5 cm (4½ x 5½ inches)
  • Spike height: 8 cm (3 inches)
  • Not suitable for microwaves or direct heat sources
  • Hand-washable

Proper Oven-Cooked Potatoes, Without the Wait

You might have heard of people sticking metal nails through their potatoes to help them cook faster. This potato baker works much the same way – but unlike old-fashioned nails, they’re 100% food safe, and there’s no need to rummage through the tool shed.

To use, stand your aluminium potato baker upright and open out the prongs so they’re easily spaced. Push your potatoes firmly onto the prongs and place in the oven, on a baking tray. The ‘upright’ design encourages air circulation, speeding up cooking times.

Now? Enjoy perfect baked potatoes, with light, fluffy middles and crispy, crunchy skins. Topped with melting butter, or smothered in your favourite filling, you’ll transform midweek lunches and meals into mouth-watering feasts.

Key Features

Cooks potatoes quickly

You’ll enjoy super-quick cooking times with this aluminium cooking rack. It spreads heat quickly and evenly, meaning your baked potatoes spends less time in the oven.

Cook four potatoes at once

With its four sturdy spikes, this metal potato baker can heat four spuds at a time, perfect for family meals or small gatherings. For the best results, use with evenly shaped and sized King Edward or Maris Piper varieties.

Great for barbecues

Planning a barbecue? Baked spuds make great hand-warmers if you’ve an autumn or winter do in the offing. They’re a tasty, filling option for vegetarian guests, too. Buy a couple of these aluminium potato bakers, and pop your spuds in the oven to cook, before you fire up the barbecue.

Easy to handle, easy to store

This potato rack has a built-in handle, so you can easily transport your potatoes to and from the oven. There’s a hanging loop too. Once you’ve finished using it, allow to cool down, give it a quick wash, fold flat and store it away. Or hang up with your other kitchen essentials so you can keep it close to hand.

Excellent, cooks potato evenly and quickly.

I bought this for my Microwave despite it being metal.

You can see my question enquiring about the microwave on the product page. The answers were mixed and none really gave me the green light.

So with it being cheap to buy and some reviews pointing out this is a quality build, I bought one to see for myself.

I put two large potatoes on it (two are needed for balance) after using a fork to perforate the skin all over (spuds explode in microwaves without the skin perforated).

In my 950watt microwave I put them in for 9 minutes on full power.

I took them out and cut them in half. The whole potato was fluffy and soft except for the very middle of each which was getting there but needed 3 more minutes.

So the next day I did the same and put them in for 12 mins and they were perfect throughout. Absolutely spot on with taste and texture.

As for it being metal and being in a microwave. There was not one spark during either test. I confirm this works great in a microwave. It behaves just like it was made of plastic. I am pleased I took the gamble, it gives me a 12 minute yummy option for lunches or supper.

It also lets me tell you it works fine in a microwave. Well my one anyway which is 11 years old.

NOTE: I see Amazon again have not given me a verified purchase option for this product. It makes it look like I am the seller writing a fake review. I find this behaviour by Amazon to be dumb, it just stops reviews being credible which in turn reduces sales ... and don't sellers pay Amazon a fee to feature their product????? ..... I hope the seller sees this review and rethinks that fee they pay. (I contact Amazon about the verified purchase option being missing and they just make excuses and leave it unresolved with no real explanation ... it's just prattle really).

In principal the product looks good, and useful. However, maybe it's me, but if you only use one or two spikes of the stand, the stand will not remain upright on my oven shelves. I haven't tried four potatoes, but I think the stand will still topple with the spikes falling between my oven rack spaces. Putting the stand on a flat tray would destroy the whole purpose of it. And just to add the last straw, when I removed the cooked potatoes from the spike, the spike was left with a gooey coating of potato which needs soaking to remove it - don't think I will bother. Another bright idea bites the dust !!

Despite being described as "Aluminium" the item delivered was actually stainless steel. All of this type of stand I have had before - and that's a lot - have all been aluminium, but this stainless steel one is much better as the spikes are thinner (pierces the potatoes easier) and structurally more rigid than aluminium (obviously).
However - and most importantly - I find that it is much easier to clean.

I have had for many years some jacket potato pins which my pen friend in the US gave me over 40 years ago and unfortunately I forgot I had them in the washing up bowl. When I emptied it I lost 2 down the plug hole but managed to save 1 but the other one is stuck in the u bend so I'm left with 3! Had never seen them over here although there was no cause to but looked on Amazon as you do and lo and behold these came up. I am really pleased with them and they do the job admirably and have cut the cooking time down. They arrived on time, packaging was ok and at least they sent through the letter box easily. I have only one little moan and that is that you have to either remove or lower a shelf in the oven as these stand up whereas with the pins the potatoes laid down and you could cook something else at the same time. Not disappointed though, splendid answer to my loss.
