There are some items that no kitchen should ever be without, and a strainer is one of those things. If you’re sieving naturally acidic ingredients, like fruit and berries, this plastic sieve is the tool for the job because it’s non-reactive. This means it won't react with acids and discolour the fruit. It won’t transfer tastes and smells either, so you can use it for different jobs, safe in the knowledge that your rice won’t come out tasting like last season's blackberries. The nylon mesh is also nice and flexible, so it’s really easy to clean this kitchen strainer, even when you’ve been handling pesky ingredients that get caught in the gaps. What’s more, it’s heat resistant to 220°C (428°F), so you can use it while you’re preparing both hot and cold food.

Lightweight, well-made - great for handling fermented foods
I had plenty of steel sieves lying around the house, but bought this one exclusively for making fermented foods, where it's recommended that plastic be used to help prevent interaction with any of the ingredients. Got the 18cm (biggest) version, which turned out to be a lot larger than I expected... bigger than a hand-span (see pic), which makes it ideal for handling larger quantities of food. It's really lightweight too, making it good for weaker wrists - at least half the weight of comparable metal sieves I have. Really good value for the price, too!     I cannot survive without a few nylon strainers of different sizes, and use this size for straining fruit purees or juice for jellies and also making "labneh" the soft cream cheese from yoghurt. I use a brand of set yoghurt that comes in a low squat tub and I pop the whole pot into its new rinsed j-cloth/muslin and use this strainer as the mould for the cheese and conveniently it fits exactly into the original tub to catch the whey and even better fits between my fridge shelves and is stable. This size also fits most of my plastic jugs and with Kitchen Craft has good "prongs" so doesn't flip on itself and chuck what you are doing on the countertop! It ma be old fashioned but I was taught that anything with Vitamin C including soft fruit should always be strained through nylon as the Vit C through metal can alter the taste, dish-washes well and arrived very speedily and as a flat pack could go through letterbox. Job done, will order more kitchen craft sizes as old sieves go west.

    I purchased two of these. When I unpacked them I immediately noticed that the mesh on one of them was dented / misshapen. It would easily have qualified for a return but I have copd and I am not getting out at the minute.
    However, it has put me off buying KITCHEN CRAFT products.
